Throughout his artistic career, LaVere had one person with whom he felt totally comfortable with who was supportive and saw only his strengths. That was his wife, Anne. They had a love affair from the time they met until the day he died (biography). He was somewhat shy with most other people and for that reason he painted people from the back. He was also extremely private and did not want people to see this intimate, sensitive side.
